Can Surrogate Fatherhood Help to Alleviate the Effects?
The need for a father cannot be overemphasized. Participants were further asked to clarify specifically, whether they felt that the effects of paternal absenteeism can be alleviated if the daughter has a father figure. In other words, they were asked to give their opinion of whether they believed that surrogate fatherhood can help to alleviate the negative effects of paternal absenteeism on daughters. Most of the daughters in this survey believed that if a surrogate father is there, the effects of this unfortunate reality might be decreased. A majority of 70 of the daughters in this survey accounted for the daughters who agreed. Eleven of the participants said that they did not think that a father figure could help to alleviate the negative effects of paternal absenteeism on daughters. There were 12 daughters who said that they felt that the presence of a father figure may have been able to make a difference in the life of a daughter. One person did not respond to this question.
